After a childhood of hardship, 18-year-old Jane Eyre sets out in hopes of beginning her life anew. Her position as a governess to a young french girl proves to be just that as she slowly comes to know her student's ward, the often harsh Mr. Rochester, master of Thornfield Hall. Determined to know his true person, Jane discovers that he is not the man he first made himself out to be.

Love blossoms, and Jane is sure she is the happiest woman to ever tread the world. However, just as she is about to say 'I do', their wedding is suddenly interupted by a dark secret Mr. Rochester had tried to keep hidden for nearly 12 years.

The secret prevents their marriage, and Jane leaves Thornfield Hall. Penniless, Jane wanders until she is found by a clergyman and his two sisters who take her in. But Jane cannot forget her beloved Mr. Rochester.
