Book 2 in the series that begins with "Sarah, Plain and Tall." A terrible drought forces many pioneers to leave their claims on the prairie. After experiencing withered crops, prairie fires, wild animals and dried up wells, Sarah and her two adopted children go to stay with Sarah's aunts on the coast of Maine, while the father, Jacob, remains with his farm. This series of brief historical novels is about 4th grade reading level, and each one is narrated by one of the children.
