Two friends, Erin and Lani, share most everything, even an automobile accident. Now Erin is crazy about Jason. Unfortunately, Lani and Jason have so many things in common that they keep finding more and more time to spend together. Lani realizes she is drawn to her best friend's boyfriend. Not cool at all!

Lani is a believes strongly in fate and fate has thrown Jason and Lani together. They discover that they want to be with no one else - just each other. Lani's dilemma is that she doesn't want to hurt her best friend, Erin, who saved her life in the automobile accident. Yet Jason and she seem destined to be together. Are they soul mates? The only person that Lani can share her feelings about Jason with is another good friend, Blake, who is gay and thrilled that she has found someone so special for her. He, too, has shared his secret with just one person, Lani. However, when she accidentally tells Jason someone else hears and soon the entire school knows.

Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti is very well done. The author spent ten years teaching high school students and I felt that she captured the angst and problems of the age very well. Good one.
