This gorgeously written story of Katherine's life was a joy to read. For those who aren't familiar with the history, Katherine was married first to Arthur and then later married his brother, Henry VIII. For years, Katherine and Henry VIII were a happily married couple but Katherine's inability to provide a male heir took a toll on their relationship. He began to feel that God was punishing him for marrying his brother's wife and attempted to find a way to end their marriage. He fell in love with Anne Boleyn and openly carried on an affair and brought her everywhere with him. This infuriated Katherine who refused to step aside as his wife and attempted to protect the rights of her daughter, Mary. As I read this meticulously researched story, it was easy to feel a connection to the time period and to Katherine's difficulties. I am eager to start reading Alison Weir's book about Anne Boleyn but feel a bit disloyal to Katherine as I move forward in the series!
