I can't believe Loretta Chase wrote this book! I am a BIG fan (have all her books on my Keeper Shelves) and this book just doesn't sound or feel like her style. Where is the smart, witty, banter between the leads? Where are the interesting secondary characters? Where is the "real" romantic tension usually withheld until the crucial moment? Where is the spot-on depiction of life in 19th century England?
This book reads like your average formulaic run-of-the-mill romance and Loretta Chase is NOT average in anyway.
Had she not been the author I would have stopped reading the book half way through. I can only hope that the next book in this series brings Chase back to true form. Keeping my toes and fingers crossed...
