In this book we have a group of teenagers who set fire to a condo they thought was empty. But when they see a teenage girl pounding on an upstairs window, it's too late to save her. They don't know that someone is watching them, recording their every move, until they are being blackmailed.

Detective Olivia Sutherland and her partner Kane are the lead investigators in the case which is a clearly arson. Olivia has to work closely with David Hunter, the firefighter who tried to rescue the girl. Olivia and David have met before, a one night stand that ended when David work up in an empty bed. Another arson shows ties to the first fire. Olivia and David deal with murder, arson, blackmail, and grief as they search for the person behind the fires.

Karen Rose certainly knows how to plot a story. There are so many characters, so many points of view, that it could end up being confusing. But it's not. You have to pay attention to the details. The clues are there. By the time we get to the end of the book all of the loose ends have been neatly tied up. That is my kind of book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
