"I must have been one of those children that's just a tad strange, because to this day (I'm 21) I *still* love this book. My writing style still has echoes of Coville ringing through it. Funny, uncomplicated, and creatively stimulating, Monster of the Year provides a few hours of old fashioned fun. Coville's writing is clear, simple, and right on the money. And the message that censorship is oppressive and that being different is more than OK are good lessons for any young adult. If you're a fan of the classic screen monsters, you'll also enjoy this book. The scenes with Frankenstein are, by far, my favorite."

"I read this one when I was younger, and I can still remember it. The plot is pretty silly, a kid puts up ..."Monster of the Year" billboard and suddenly real life monsters show up to participate in the contest. Coville does his own unique spin on the monsters, my favorite being the Creature from the Black Lagoon who has self esteem problems. All and All, a solid read"
