Sanctuary for a Lady is so good, I can hardly believe it is the author's debut novel. Set during the French Revolution, we get two perspectives of the conflict, from Michel's view as a poor farmer, and from Isabelle's view as an aristocrat on the run. The revolution is all too real, but we're spared the gore. The romantic tension between Isabelle and Michel was strong every time they were together. Their feelings of self-doubt, in Michel's case, and of guilt in Isabelle's case, will be easy to relate to for most readers.
The plot started off with a bang, and kept gathering steam through the entire story. With most Christian romances, you can usually tell pretty clearly how the hero & heroine will manage to be together by the end, but this was a book where I thought there really wouldn't be a way for Michel & Isabelle to be together. I stayed up reading into the wee hours of the morning to find out how it all turned out. Looking forward to more books by Naomi Rawlings!
