Entertaining and enjoyable read. The author moves back and forth between time periods and viewpoints, smoothly utilizing modern day dialogues with written court transcripts, written diary, and a flashback told thru the historical figure Victoria Woodhull. I appreciated the opening premise of a modern antique book hunter finding an intriguing sepia photo and launching into research to discover who the subjects were and what happened to them. The mystery and court proceedings are made up, parts of Woodhull's actions on based on her biography. (I'd like to do more research on Woodhull and Spiritualism w/nonfiction sources to find out more.) The reader always has more information than the characters, but the tension builds well, there are action scenes, and the story resolves in a surprising but satisfying way. Recommend.
