I didn't know Bogart's father was a cardiopulmonary surgeon and his mother was a commercial illustrator. Humphrey was the eldest of three children (two younger sisters, Frances and Catherine Elizabeth). The parents were busy with their careers. They fought a great deal and took drugs (for pain, etc.).

Watching just how long it took for Bogie to make a name was stunning. However, he made a limited number of films before his death, and they all seem to have been winners. Sometimes, they weren't recognized as great work until years later.

I would have liked to have seen photos of each of Bogey's wives. Lauren Bacall is shown. However, she is one of the most recognized faces in Hollywood. The other three were not household names.

In 1999, Bogart was named the greatest male star of classic American cinema by the American Film Institute. This was not mentioned in the book.
