What an interesting author! I'll definitely watch for her work in the future. This is an exciting but flawed first book, which felt overplotted & overpopulated with unnecessary characters, given its relatively brief length; it must have been really chopped down from a much longer book. But so promising, with such lively moments all through it. This author is so earthy, as if she's really trying to bring the real Regency to life. And also very witty and slightly perverse. But the overplotting led to a sacrifice in character development, and there's a lot of transparent exposition through dialogue, and the author isn't good on visuals, setting or description -- it's as though she wrote a screenplay. Still, I like her sensibility & I am going to keep an eye out for her next book. She's like a gritty, sexually daring Carla Kelly. If the next book is a decent length, I'm sure she'll do better -- I'm not sure this relatively slender Signet Regency fits her right & I hope her publishers don't make her go through a "Goldilocks" thing looking for the right way to showcase her talents.
