This was my first forray into the Matthew Scudder series, and I will definitely be reading more. In many ways, this book embodies the entire detective/mystery fiction genre. Quick, short read, more novella than novel, but all the elements are there. Flawed hero, righteous villian, action, plot twists: it's all here and it all works beautifully.
