This book was great. It's the second in the Ladies in Waiting series, and it's better than the first. The heroine, Lily, is the half-sister of the hero of Book 1, "One Whisper Away", and she has a scandal in her past, which was revealed in that book. Also, readers of Wildes' earlier book "Lessons from a Scarlet Lady" will be thrilled to learn that the hero here is Damien Northfield. He was the middle brother in "Lessons", which featured the romances of his older brother Colton & his younger brother Robert. I love Damien and I was hoping the author would give him his own story. Damien was a spy for the British during the Napoleonic wars. In "Lessons" he was a more light-hearted character, but due to events that happened to him later in the war, his personality is a bit darker and more serious now. There's also a mystery/blackmail subplot, a secondary romance, and several other characters from "Lessons" and "One Whisper" make appearances, but the author is great at juggling everything perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I will probably keep it and read it again more slowly.
The secondary romance involves Lily's cousin James and Regina Daudet, the sister of Luke Daudet, who was the hero of another earlier book, "Our Wicked Mistake", where Regina first appeared.
