Greek mythology speaks of Pandora, a woman to whom is given a container, within which is all the troubles of humanity. Her sister, Anesidora, was given all the gods' blessings. Could the myth actually be true? This is the question that archaeologist Sophie Durand wants to answer when she discovers a subterranean room where ancient writing seems to confirm that Pandora and her sister were actually real people. However, there is only one jar in the room, with no certainty as to what it contained. News of the discover spreads and soon local jihadists are fighting local forces for control of the dig. The situation becomes more complicated when dig personnel begin suffering unusual symptoms. Will help arrive in time or will this discovery be Durand's last?

The Pandora Room by Christopher Golden is an archaeological thriller worth reading. Golden has taken one of the best known of Greek myths and crafted a cast of characters and a plot that is hard to beat. This book is the second in a series of archaeological thrillers featuring Ben Walker, an investigator of the strange and unusual. Golden's writing style should appeal to fans of James Rollins and similar writers. I give this book 4/5 stars.
