If you are really interested in making your home look its very best, this is one of the books you must have for reference. I think Ward's first book, "Use What you Have Decorating" was her very best. But this book adds to what she has said in that book. She gives you "rules" that can make what seems like a hodge podge look like it was almost planned. If you own items that are from different decorating styles and you want to use everything together in an eclectic fashion, Lauri Ward can help you! She helps you stay focused and ends confusion.

If you are interested in learning further, I suggest "Straight Talk on Decorating" from Lynette Jennings. I would not read them out of order, however. First learn the rules of decorating from Lauri Ward! Once you feel you understand and can follow those rules, you are ready to learn how to break the rules with Ms Jennings.

Creativity is wonderful. But if it isnt focused, you have hodgepodge. Imho, the most creative people in the world aren't very organized. Even artists have rules they follow when they work on canvas. They triangulate to create depth in their paintings.

Have fun!
