Fantasy romance from Cerridwen Press, a "mainstream" novel from romantica author Lora Leigh. The Bird Clan society is being attacked by an enemies thought to be long dead. The King, Dearn, encounters a woman the likes of which he's never encountered before. Why is he attracted to the beautiful Half Breed Warrior woman, Matte, who shouldn't even exist? This book is not an erotic romance. The plot is solid, characters likeable. Lora Leigh has woven a good story. My only complaint has to do with the graphic nature of the torture and rape occuring early in the story. Maybe the violence was necessary to the world-building of the tale, but it was a little much for me. The themes of prejudice and stereotyping were well handled, in my opinion. I'm not a die hard Lora Leigh fan, but I like this book, and I'm glad I read it.
