Security Expert Ethan Buchanan has been tasked with finding his godson, Alec, a deaf-mute 12-year-old who has been kidnapped. With the help of his partner, Ethan has tracked the woman who took Alec to Chicago. Sue Conway vows to make the people who put her in prison pay. The first step is kidnapping Alec. Sue and her "son" hide at Hanover House, a home for battered women and children. The home's director, Dana Dupinsky, has no reason to doubt her. When Ethan meets Dana while checking out a lead at a Chicago bus station, he doesn't realize that Dana is unwittingly hiding the very people he is searching for.

This is Karen Rose's fourth book and they just keep getting better and better. This story is well plotted with lots of twists and turns. We usually don't see many female villains. Rose has created a convincing killer in Sue Conway. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. My rating: 5 Stars.
