There is good Space Opera and bad Space Opera, Then there is Jack Campbell's Space Opera, which I can't enough of.

If you've read Campbell's other series, about "Black Jack" Geary's adventures, then you've probably wondered how it all began. This series answers that question. In fact, if you pay attention, there are at least two sentences in this book which tells you how and why the Syndic worlds were founded.
