Any fan of Harry Potter will enjoy Herbie Brennan's series about the Faerie Wars. This is the first book, and is complete in itself, but it sets up the stage for the further titles, of course.
Magic and engineering, spells and advanced physics' alternate dimensions, demons and UFO nuts---FAERIE WARS has them all!

Caution: it also includes the breakup of families, death of some 'good guys,' extramarital affairs, the looming specter of divorce and other not so fairy-like action.
