One of the characters is a murder-mystery writer who excels at creating extremely convoluted plots. Couldn't help thinking Rupert Penny put himself into this one; the murder is so complicated that the culprit had to have created a spreadsheet to lay it all out. The dialogue between Beale and Purdon sparkles, as in the other books in this series. Some of the other characters get in some clever quips as well, which makes for a fun read. The book has an "Interlude" in which the reader is challenged to name the guilty party. But unless you have that spreadsheet handy...
