In the future-world, year 2011, John McCain was president and the United States was still heavily involved in Iraq. Jimmy Burns, hip Brooklynite video blogger, witnesses a suicide bombing in a Starbucks underneath his apartment while shooting a "vlog" and the video is commandeered by the future-world television network "Global News Network." Instantly famous, he is sent to Iraq to cover the war for Global News.

Originally a web comic, but now offered in its entirety in book form, Shooting War certainly gained a lot of buzz back when it was first published in 2007, and is worthy of that buzz. It is engaging, apparently drawn from Lappe's own experiences as a war correspondent. Goldman's art is interesting, a mixture of photographs and illustrations, sometimes it works, sometimes it seems awkward. But overall, a very worthwhile read.
