As a follower of Christ, I like to read good Christian fiction, but as a librarian, I insist on GOOD writing and fully fleshed-out character foremost. This book by fiction author Palmer and nonfiction author/marriage therapist Chapman is disappointing. For that I suppose Palmer should get the blame, although I have never read any of her other books so I have no comparison to make. This is part of what will be a quartet of books about marriages, one per season. It is pretty obvious from the first book which minor characters will move to the forefront for the other books as I believe that all the characters have been introduced, for the most part.
My chief gripe is not the plotting although much happens without rhyme or reason. It is as if this is an outline for a book but it got published without being finished. It is a skeleton of a book, with more pages dedicated to peripheral characters than to the Hansen couple, the ideal couple whose marriage is failing from within.
I won't include any spoilers and it is a pleasant enough read if you are undemanding or just want something to read while the kids have swimming lessons. It was disappointing to me because I expected more.
