I went into reading this novel with no true preconceived notions about what to expect, except a story good enough that someone deemed it screenplay material.
I turned out loving every minute of reading this story. Both the story of the Jacob as an elderly man and his reminiscing about his youth in the circus were riveting, though the elderly Jacob broke my heart at times.
All in all, a wonderful book with vivid characters that I highly recommend. I have not yet seen the movie and am a bit nervous about doing so, as I can't imagine it being nearly as good as the book and I want to savor the memory of it.
