One of the latest in the Discworld series, Thud is a Sam Vimes story, with allusions to "The DaVinci Code" sprinkled liberally throughout. The progression of Sam Vimes from drunken night watchman to a Duke of Ankh-Morpork is one of the most satisfying storylines in the Discworld series, and this is a good culmination of that series.
Discworld, like Star Trek, has a habit of taking it's own racial enemies and exploring their animosity. This book focuses on the Dwarves and Trolls and the infamous battle at Koom Valley.
