This book is a collection of essays that were previously printed in Pensee magazine; the articles are written by Velikovsky and those who evaluated his scientific predictions. Immanuel Velikovsky was a very controversial author of books which came out starting in about 1950. He dug up legends as well as scientific evidence of a much more dynamic and cataclysmic solar system -- and was just about ostracized from the scientific community for his daring to challenge the theory that the solar system had always been as we see it today.
Velikovsky made several astonishing predictions about the planet Venus which were later (much later) borne out by flyby missions. How could he have guessed that Venus had high temperatures, or that it was slowly cooling off? How could he have guessed that Venus had a very dense lower atmosphere, or that it spins in the opposite direction?
Remember, this was many years before NASA was even a gleam in President Kennedy's eyes.
