This book, the middle of the series, doesn't take us terribly far but there are some very interesting developments. We're down to four main POVs - Cithrin, Marcus, Clara, and Geder. Geder feels like such a sociopath. He's capable of the most awful things, and he easily rationalizes them to himself without so much as a hint that they're awful, then he's upset because people aren't friends with him. You could see the obsession with Cithrin coming from the last book. The ability of the priests is chilling and so far, it's the only real magic we've seen, although that might be about to change. I am surprised by Clara's story, I didn't see that coming, but she's growing on me as a character and now I'm worried about the missteps she's made. I thought Kit and Marcus's adventures were fascinating, and the last thing they found, that will really be fun to read about. Cithrin remains my favorite though.
