Although this book tells a very difficult story in two different time frames in Korea, i just did not feel that engaged. The stories are very sad and intertwined by family members. To read how Korean women were treated by the Japanese during WWII is terrifying. However, although I know that we are supposed to connect to Emi in the current story, it just didn't happen for me. I wish that I had liked this book better than I did.
