Written just before the big crash of 2008, Mr. Pink's premise speaks to designers, conceptual workers, inventors, artists in many fields are the ones who will reap the best jobs, and technical and manufacturing jobs have and will continue to go overseas. The second half of the premise is certainly accurate; he expounds why for most of us who don't understand the current jobs market trends and the ridiculous political stance of some candidates who claim they can "make" jobs happen. The first part would mean that "high touch" companies who create individualized products, create meaningful products that are valuable over lifetimes (plural), create an experience that is priceless or create totally new products that people don't even know how to use as yet - theses companies should be flourishing. NOT! Because of the downturn, most people are very, very shy of innovation or investment in something new. Mr. Pink's premise is encouraging, but unfortunately old news and wishful thinking (due to politics and economy). I'd love to read an update of his book, to see what he predicts for 2013 and beyond.
