This book takes a look at how North American Christians sometimes unintentionally do more harm than help when it comes to poverty alleviation efforts. The book focuses on three main areas: 1) Who is defined as "poor", 2) the difference in offering relief, rehabilitation, &/or development and when/how each should be offered, and 3) how people can help more effectively. The authors explain how sometimes when help is offered in foreign countries North Americans go & try to "American-ize" the people, again usually unintentionally. The authors point out that the attitude shouldn't be to fix the people being helped, instead it should be to empower them & what empowerment actually looks like.
