This is a most unlikely story and the first chapter lets the reader know just how wild the story is going to be. OK, I suspended disbelief so that I could get into the story. Christina Bennett's meeting with Lyon, Marquis of Lyonwood (when Christina immediately recognizes Lyon as a warrior) and their subsequent instant attraction was made believable by Chapter One.
However, the constant misunderstanding between the two leads, which could have been straightened out by an honest conversation or two, dragged on way too long. The story got tedious after a while; the plot dragged. Then, in the end, all the loose strings were tied up in a quick fashion.
I didn't think this was any more than an average novel. I have no interest in reading the other stories in this series.
Crown's Spies
**1. The Lion's Lady (1988)
2. Guardian Angel (1990)
3. The Gift (1991)
4. Castles (1993)
