Mary Maclaine accepts Lord Ewan MacCrichtons' offer of marriage, but when she discovers what Ewan has in store for her, she changes her mind. The result bodes ill for Mary.
She is saved by her enemy, Black Duncan Campbell, with a proposal of his own. Under Duncan's protection, Mary will be safe from the devious Ewan. What starts as a marriage in name only evolves into real matrimony. It doesn't prove enough to stop Ewan, however.
