I am very glad to be back in Flavia's world. She is now 12 years old and the inheritor of Buckshaw since her father's death. Dogger suggests a boating trip to help the girls with their grief. It's on this trip that Flavia discovers a body along the bank of the river. Dogger has taken on a new role of assisting Flavia in trying to solve the murder. Her sisters are more congenial towards Flavia and even extend helping hands with her detecting. There are lots of new and entertaining characters that Flavia needs to interview. Alan Bradley is a very witty writer and this book does not disappoint. His plot is very intriguing and keeps the pages turning until the very end. I think Alan is only doing 10 books. This is #9 in the series but he has also written a novella, so I'm not sure if this is the last book. I hope not because I will definitely miss Flavia and her adventures. I would highly recommend this series to those who love adventure mysteries with a bit of wit and chemistry. This series is best to read in order.
