These are milblog posts from the front, both Afghanistan and Iraq, in late 2007 and early 2008. I especially liked A Surreal Day and Road Work from Iraq, as well as Forgotten, List of Gear, Mahn, and Combat from Afghanistan. The best one I read was 'Man Food' in which a wife describes what she is can put into the care package she is mailing to her husband on active duty.
It was nice to see that the troops had stuff pour in at Christmastime.
