read only 2 of the stories in the book, Elaine Viets Dead-end Job and Victoria Laurie, Psychic Eye Mystery.

Psychic Eye. This seems to be the prequel story of Abby Cooper, PI. Abby's sister Cat wisks her away to sunny Florida for some R&R and to attend a psychic seminar. Abby reluctantly agrees to attend, but discovers that the psychic Diedra is a fraud. She gets thrown out of the confrence and approached by a metaphical scientist wanting to study Abby to win a 2.5million dollar award. The woman who offers the award, Celeste, crashes the confrence and exposes Diedra, and is later found dead in the hotel. Abby, Cat, and their new friend, Milicent sleuth around the hotel to expose the real killer.

Elaine Viets story: I was expecting to read abut Helen and her first dead end job. Instead we open the story with Helen drinking on the patio at her apartments with her landlord, Margery. Margery then tells Helen a story about murder in her office back in the early 70's. We learn about a mousy shy employee named Minfreda aka Minny, whom everyone picks on, especially the boss, Vicki. After Minni's office chum quits, Minnie dyes her hair blonde and oozes with her new found confidence. After Vicki steals Minnie's promotion, Vicki gets brutally murdered and disappears. Helen soon starts thinking that based on all the detailed facts, the real murderer could very well be sitting right in front of her!!
