Terrific book that drew me in from the first chapter and kept me guessing to the end. Olivia was devastated when she received a call telling her that her beloved grandfather Willy was dead. After driving from Montana to Tennessee, she arrived in her hometown only to discover that her grandfather's house had been ransacked. Complicating matters, the deputy detective sent to take the report was Huck Monroe, Olivia's childhood best friend, teen sweetheart, and the man who broke her heart when she was in college.

Huck still feels guilty about how he handled their breakup and doesn't blame her for being angry. But the ransacking of Willy's house adds credence to his and Olivia's belief that Willy's death was no accident, so they call a truce while working to uncover the truth.

I liked watching the rekindling of the relationship between Olivia and Huck. It helped that Huck apologized sincerely and admitted to his mistakes. With the past dealt with, it doesn't take long for the old feelings to revive and grow stronger. Huck's protectiveness is aroused when attacks are aimed at Olivia, and it becomes evident that someone wants her gone. I liked Huck's determination to keep her safe while they investigated. The only problem is keeping their growing feelings from being a distraction.

The suspense was a roller coaster ride of twists, turns, and surprises. As Huck and Olivia delved deeper into Willy's life, unexpected revelations questioned everything she knew about her family. Each clue opened more questions than it answered, bringing in new possibilities for the murderer. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw a twist I didn't see coming. The final confrontation was a nail-biter as Huck and Olivia faced off against an unexpected enemy. The resolution was well done and believable, and answered all their questions.

I liked the ending and seeing Huck and Olivia ready to put the past behind them. I'd love to see more of them in a later book and see their future.
