Sleuth is a newspaper reporter, returned now to her Atlanta home after a few years in California. Characters include: the still-beautiful 70-ish Southern Belle (and her sister, who takes care of her, what with the bipolar disorder and some dementia--or is it???--, don't you know); The 60-ish scamp (male) who courts rich, older women who seem to die; and the AA-member newspaper reporter.
Conclusion doesn't really have a twist, but does have an interesting set of coincidences and circumstances. Initially, I expected a totally predictable story. I read the end. Not predictable. Then read the whole thing.
Family secrets are revealed, but they're no longer quite so scandalous.
At the end, a matriarch rights some wrongs, protects some reputations, sets erroneous paths aright... using persuasion and some extra-legal justice.
Short book, fast to read. Second in series.
Author Sarah Shankman using pseudonuym Alice Storey.
