First in the Lion series.

Megan Sutherland is her clan's revered storyteller. But as Megan spins legendary tales, she aches for the discontentment that lives within her own family.

Megan does not trust her mother's cousin, Comyn MacDonnel, and is certain he is behind many of the secrets being kept from her and her mother. Megan has secrets of her own, however, and never will she tell Comyn where her sister Siusan is, or that she carries her dead lovers child, for Meg knows he will kill the child and try to keep Siusan for himself.

Ross Carmichael hates the Clan Sutherland, but not quite as much as his father does. Ross' brother Lion, who wished to marry Siusan Sutherland, was found with a quarrel in his back in the arms of his 'beloved'. Knowing he was murdered, Ross' father has made several attempts at attack on the Sutherlands.

In order to restore some peace, the King orders a marriage between Ross and Megan. Bound by duty, yet riddled with hate, distrust and the determination to avenge his brothers death, Ross takes his most trusted men and enters the world of the Clan Sutherland.
