When her close personal friend, Father Michel Dugas, is killed, Lily Martin returns home to Louisiana after years away. While there she's forced to face her past in the form of Gitan Boudreaux, her former lover and the man sent to prison for killing her father. After Gitan went to prison Lily married and divorced Hugh Lothair, the man who is now Sheriff. Lily has never really fallen out of love with Gitan, or he with her, and now that they are together again those feelings are coming alive. Only they must still deal with finding out who killed Father Dugas. Add to that, Gitan is still determined to protect Lily from the secrets of what really happened the night her father died. Faced with both of these obstacles, and an ex-husband who is not quite ready to let go, can Gitan and Lily finally have a chance at happiness?
