I've really enjoyed this military sci-fi series, but I have to admit most of this book dragged on. I got so tired of the hero playing maneuvers with the "dark ships," I began to wish he and his fleet would be destroyed---okay, not really.

Still the author should have shortened that part of the book. You get to a point where losing dozens of ships and thousands of ship personnel in battle bores you. Especially when it doesn't seem to have any purpose.

A lot of questions were answered in this book, and the surprise ending really shouldn't have been a surprise, as I briefly thought about it when the Alliance fleet entered the Unity Alternate star system, but it was.

However, the novel and "The Lost Fleet : Beyond the Frontier" series ended well. Now I can move on to the author's "The Lost Stars" series which appears to have interesting plot concepts.
