f you are interested in the key international news events from the 1830s till the end of the 29th century, and if you are moved by great photos from photojournalism - some of which you'll recognize from magazine others, others with which you will be unfamiliar - you will really enjoy this book. The many photos are mostly in black and white (some are in color) and compromise the bulk of this oversize book - many are quite emotionally moving, and capture the anguish of a traumatic event.

The book is divided into six chapters, by two different authors: 1839-1880, 1880-1920, 1880-1920, 1920-1950, 1950-1980, 1980-1995. The accompanying text is informative. I for one didn't even know that the first known photograph was from late 1829s (Daguerre), and thought that photography was developed in the late 19th century.
