Knowing absolutely nothing about this chapter of WW II history, I ordered this book with low expectations to be read on a rainy day. It turned out to be one of the best surprises I have come across recently. It's a detailed account of the most controversial act carried out by the Czech resistance during the war, one that resulted in the reprisal murders of thousands of innocent citizens by the thug Hitler and his bloodthirsty underlings. It also provided great insight into the different factions of Hitler's organization, the SS, Wermacht, Gestapo, etc., and the internal squabbling among the groups.

The only negatives I would report are that the details on the political aspects of the period tended to drag the story out for me, and the author's use of page-long paragraphs was kind of annoying. Other than those two minor complaints, I found this story to be a very interesting subject and highly recommend the book.
