I know I started off my review of the first Nikki Heat book with the disclaimer that Im a big fan of the TV show Castle, and that my devotion to the show would undoubtedly color my review. Im going to tell you right now, internets, that while I am just as devoted to the show as I was before, I dont feel that disclaimer is warranted in this case. And no, I was not contacted by Hyperion or ABC to say any of thisalthough, if yall are reading, I would happily accept meeting Nathan Fillion as a reward ;)
In all seriousness, while I am not much of a mystery reader, I am a reader in general, and I found this to be a decent book all around. Sure, you needed some historical knowledge of the characters to fully understand the story, but as the second book in a series, that makes sense to me. A lot of what happened in this book more relied on the characters history in the previous book, rather than the history on the TV show. And I will admit this is somewhat flawed, as the first book kind of relied on you being a fan of the show, but I will maintain that overall, someone without any of that historical knowledge could read, understand, and enjoy this book.
