First of the "Freedom" science fiction series by the author of the "Pern" science fiction series. Several hundred humans and species from other planets (plus one Catteni) who have revolted against their conquerors from the planet Catten, are exiled to a supposedly uninhabited planet, where they build a new society.

I have read and enjoyed this series several times.
