I've had this book on my shelf for a few years and just never got around to reading it. Had a couple of days break so decide to give it a go. I saw the movie when it first came out but to tell the truth I can't remember much about it so I have no idea how closely the book is to the movie. The book however, is a good quick read that kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed reading it that I have ordered the second in the series thru this site. Now my negatives, and they are just a few. One of my biggest complaints with all authors is when they don't take the time to research weaponry. When they get it completely wrong it just ruins that part of the story. Here's the screw-ups in this book, all the following are quotes from the book with my thoughts in parenthesis. "Henri! It was his truck's lights we saw enter the school grounds. He has a double barrel shotgun I have never seen before". (Double barrel shotguns are break open shot guns that hold two shells at a time. You break it open, insert the shells, cock the hammers and pull the triggers. This is the first weapon associated with the heroes of the book.) A few pages later, "Henri snaps the gun open, slides in two new cartridges, snaps it shut". (Oh, so close, the reloading of the two shells is correct but they are not cartridges, they are shot gun shells, cartridges are associated with pistols and revolvers). Same page, " How many bullets does that hold?" I ask. "Ten" he says. ( completely wrong, the double barrel holds two shells). Still later in the same fight sequence, "Henri lifts the shotgun and pumps it once, looks at Sarah and Mark." (You don't pump the double barrel shotgun). When authors are too lazy to research weaponry and other technical or machine capabilities it just ruins the whole sequence of events. Hopefully the second book fares better.
