This book is set right at the end of WWII in Central Europe. Instead of focusing on the war and international fighting, this story centers around people and family -- the internal wars among them during crisis. I found it interesting that communism was presented in both its pure and twisted forms enabling an understanding of how brilliant social ideas can be misinterpreted, mismanaged and lost to memory forever.
