The blurb on the back of the book notes that the attack on Fort Sumter brought thousands of volunteers for the Union Army. "It proved especially easy to raise a cavalry recruits naively believed that their military duties would be easier than in the infantry."
Well illustrated with formal poses upon enlistment, uniforms from museums, and Harpers Weekly engravings. Tactics and equipment are covered but I didn't see any pictures of the fallen on the battlefields. The authors has looked up all the regulations about uniforms.
Index, bibliography, sites of interest.
