ISBN 0689805713 - The plot recap is easy: A lady and her dog would like some stew. Unfortunately, Chez Stew has run out of stew and the the chef cannot make more because the stew is actually made by the host/waiter's grandmother... who happens to be bowling tonight. The entire story is told in an exchange between the lady and the host, in rhyme.

In children's books, the plot is often lacking. Since the kids don't take much notice, it's okay. In THIS book, there's not much plot - but it works! The rhyme is simple and flows perfectly and the illustrations will knock your socks off. The details are wonderful (Bleecker Street!), each illustration looks like a captured moment in a musical number and they're all fun.

While Numeroff and Saltzberg deserve kudos for the writing, all five stars go to Salvatore Murdocca for the illustrations. I hope to find much more of his work now that I've "discovered" him!
