When a dog is tied up at the Tara Foundation before anyone arrives in the morning, the reader knows that a fascinating mystery is afoot. Then, while scanning the dog, Willie finds that the dog's name is Cody and he was part of a child-and-dog-kidnapping three years before. From the time the dog is identified, the story unfolds at an accelerating pace.
This is one of those stories that I can't put down because it includes a horrifying attack on the nanny and the loss of a beloved child and family dog. The person in jail for the missing child is the ex-boyfriend of the adoptive mother. That mother is the high-powered CEO of a DNA analysis company. She was so shattered by the kidnapping that she has stepped back from her blockbuster company and seems to be stuck in a grief-filled void. Fortunately, Andy and his wife are friends with her and offer to help with whatever clues there may be.
This is absolutely an incredible story -- up until the last 20 minutes of reading (or so). I just didn't buy the solution. I don't want to ruin it for other readers and so that is all I will say. I just couldn't believe it. However, the book was so incredible up to that point that I don't want to penalize it any further than take away one star. It is still a cracker-jack story and a wild ride.
