Bertrice Small is one of the great romance writers around, and this historical is set at the time of James IV of Scotland, whose tension with Henry of England sets much of the plot into action. We see how the brutality of a distant cousin toward members of his Highland family, in order to gain control of their holdings, leads to complications resulting in the bride being given to a border lord. The ensuing story is a wonderful read. Small does not disappoint.
