Originally published in 1973, this book was written passionately by Ludlum during the time of the Watergate scandal. When it was released again in 1989, he changed nothing.
An honorable man, Andrew Trevayne, is chosen to head up a subcommittee to investigate what appears to be a "secret government." A self-made millionaire, former undersecretary of State, and head of a prestigious foundation, Trevayne has nothing to lose or gain as a result of the committee's findings. What he and his committee find, instead, is an invasive entity which has infiltrated--and controls--all aspects of American life. It's a fine read!
